I am writing to express my gratitude for Bob Larkins. In 2017-2018, my family was going through a major transition. We had made agreements to sell our three family businesses. Two of the businesses involved another family as partners. Over the years, I had purchased life insurance policies on the lives of my children, myself, my wife, my brothers in the business, and our partner from another family. The purposes of these policies varied from estate planning to business succession planning. Especially with our advancing age and the sale of our businesses, there were many new factors to consider. While we had worked with very capable insurance agents (and some not quite as capable) over the years, I began the search for someone who could review all of the policies and provide guidance related to our current and future needs. A friend and business associate for over 40 years highly recommended Bob Larkins. At the same time, I was also working with our accountant, estate planning attorney, bank, and other investment advisors; all of which shared many decades of trusted working relationship with our companies and me.
In 2018, Bob Larkins started by helping us organize and review all of our current policies. In addition, Bob looked at our trust documents and other estate planning information. In all cases, Bob was not the “Agent of Record” for any of these policies. He had not sold us any of the policies and had not received any commission or other compensation. When the information was difficult to find, Bob would find the appropriate contact person at each insurance company. He would arrange conference calls, so that I could grant permission to the insurance companies to share information with both Bob and me. This process was time-consuming, especially as I did not have current information on some of the policies. Over several weeks, Bob gathered the information on all of our policies and did a thorough review of each policy. In most cases, Bob explained the reasons why our policies were still well suited for our current and future goals. He offered suggestions for improvements in other areas, especially in the way policies were structured to minimize future estate taxes and other considerations. Perhaps most important for my peace of mind, Bob worked to make sure that each insurance company had my current contact information.
In the process, I have had the pleasure of also working with Bob’s wife, Anne Larkins. She does a phenomenal job. They work well as a team together. In working with Bob and Anne Larkins, I have grown more and more convinced of my decision to partner with them in this process. Bob has a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience with life insurance products, estate planning, trusts, and even a few good old corny Dad jokes. Anne’s skills complement Bob as well. Anne keeps all of us on track.
